City Island, NY holds many of the qualities of Manhattan within the confines of a small island. While there is a central commercial strip, the location of the site is on the North Eastern portion of the island just behind a row of bungalo type houses. The program was to create a local island for the island residents and to keep the impact on the surrounding houses to a minimum.
Upon entering the library several administration and storage rooms are on the first floor while the primary stacks reside on the second. There are several views of the surrounding harbor framed by the building openings which can be seen as occupants utilize the stacks and surrounding rooms.
